Catholic Church to appear before Victorian inquiry this week

http://www.cam.org.au/Portals/45/Skins/facingTheTruth/images/banner.jpgRepresentatives from the Catholic Church in Victoria will appear this week before the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the Handling of Child Abuse by Religious and Other Organisations.

The Church welcomes the opportunity to present to the Inquiry, the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne said in a media statement announcing the schedule of appearances.

Today there will be three groups appearing before the inquiry: at 10:00am St John of God, at 1:00pm the Salesians of Don Bosco and at 2:15pm the Diocese of Ballarat.

Tomorrow the Melbourne Response Independent Commissioners will appear, and on Friday there are four groups scheduled to appear: the Christian Brothers, Towards Healing, Catholic Education and the Melbourne Response Compensation Panel Chair.

FACING THE TRUTH

Church representatives have faced the truth that the Church failed children in its care and expressed their determination to ensure that this can never happen again.

Statements will be available for download at the Facing the Truth website www.facingthetruth.org.au following each appearance before the Inquiry.
