Two churches broken into over Christmas

Gardaí are appealing for information about two break-ins at churches in Limerick city and Co Clare over Christmas.

A substantial amount of money – believed to be several thousand euro – was stolen from St Brigid’s Church on St Patrick’s Road in Limerick.

It is believed the robbery took place some time between late on Christmas night and early on St Stephen’s Day.

The thieves stole the Christmas dues and Christmas collection.

Meanwhile, a safe containing three chalices was stolen from Parteen Church, Co Clare, between 9pm on Christmas night and 10am on St Stephen’s Day.

Gardaí are investigating the possibility that both incidents may have been carried out by the same gang.
